About
Hello! I’m Mike Breen and somehow you’ve stumbled onto my blog. Just in case we haven’t had the chance to meet…I’m married to Sally, we have three fantastic kids, Beccy, Libby and Sam, and we have a penchant for black labs. I love going to movies, reading, a good glass of wine with friends and laughing…a lot! I was the Senior Rector at St. Thomas Sheffield, where we pioneered some very different ways of being the church and when I left we were the largest church in England. Today, I lead 3DM, the global home for an organic movement of biblical discipleship and missional church that is centered in the United States.

Thanks
Lovely family! So glad you’re blogging – and great to do it as conversation. We’ll be listening in, learning and joining in the laughter too.
Much love
Gordon and Judy.
I heard you speak at Midwestern Baptist Theological seminary 2-3 years ago at a Missional conference. You spoke of an earthquake where the only building that remained was the church. Was that the 1931 Hawkes Bay earthquake in New Zealand as mentioned in The Passionate Church? If not, could you please tell me which eathquake it was? Thanks,
Cole
Yes! That’s the one.
Our student leadership team is looking for a way to host you on our campus. What is the best way to reach you? mdg

I heard you today at my church via video (seacoast greensboro). Thank you for sharing your love for the Word. I appreciated your message….
What does 3dm stand for?
Three Dimensional Movement. 3DM.
Basically, Jesus patterned his life and relationships around three things and was able to balance them:
1) Relationship with God (UP)
2) Relationship with disciples/community (IN)
3) Relationship with a broken world (OUT)
We want our lives and our communities to reflection all three dimensions.
Thank you very much sir for the info.
Hi mike, wondered if you might look at something I am writing on children, families and missional communities? I’d be grateful if you didn’t publish this comment if so, just couldn’t find an email address. Blessings. children.pastor@gmail.com
I understand you are in the UK again soon and I am hoping to attend the pilgramage course but are you speaking / preaching at any other churches or venues please.
Many thanks
Why I would love to see 3DM and Renovare in symbiotic relationship:

Or, uniting both sides of “the pond” . . . 🙂
Mike – may our web magazine (below) have permission to reprint items from your blog. thank you.
Don, as long as everything is sourced, feel free to borrow and use anything you see on the blog.
Over the past year I have been working on a definition of a disciple. What I came up with so far was…. a disciple is one who manifests the character, convictions, and conduct of Jesus and multiplies other to do the same.
When I read your latest blog (Missional Part 2), I felt affirmation of my definition.
Daryl Stagg
Great definition Daryl. That has a certain “sticky” quality about it.
Mike, I just took the five fold role survey. One of the easiest, most helpful, easiest, insightful, did I say easiest things that I’ve done. So many survey’s are so complicated. Some spiritual gifts tests that I’ve taken my spiritual gift has changed by the time I figure out how to use them:). I read your first discipling culture book at Seacoast Church Columbia. I’m now going through the second edition and loving it. I’m looking for God to open a new ministry door for me and can’t wait to use 3DM in it. Thanks for listening to God.
hey Mike, I really like your blog and insight, thanks for sharing and making it available to all. Just a quick comment, when I get your blogs in my in-box, the sender is “WordPress”, just thought: you might want to change that to your name? No big deal, just aesthetics and I am bit OCD. BTW-really liked the family post you did a few weeks ago!
Mike, I am trying to get a hard copy of your book ‘building a discipling culture’ so that I can cite it. I am doing an essay for a masters course and we are not allowed to cite ebooks.
Thanks Ian
It’ll be here the beginning of May, it looks like.
Ok thanks – My work has to be in early May though.
At the risk of being a pest, you wouldn’t happen to know anyone in Sheffield who may have a copy from an earlier print run? I am nearby in Rotherham.
How can one obtain part 5 and part 6 of Letters To America. Thanks.
We’ll be posting them in the next few weeks on the blog.
